Police check terms
These terms apply when you purchase a BamChi verified police check. The check is a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check conducted on BamChi's behalf by an accredited national police checking provider. By purchasing, you agree to these terms, the checking provider's own terms, and the BamChi Services Terms.
THE SHORT VERSION
- Use your full legal name exactly as it appears on your ID — a mismatch is the #1 reason checks get stuck or voided.
- No refund once your ID is submitted. Before that: refund minus a $10 processing fee.
- Finish ID verification within 3 months or the check lapses without refund.
- Most results come back same day; about 1 in 20 is referred for review and takes longer — normal, and not refundable.
- Only the verified badge and its date ever appear on your profile — BamChi never shares the check's contents with anyone.
- The badge is valid on BamChi for 12 months, then it comes off unless you renew.

1. What you are buying
A one-off national police check ($69.90 incl GST) run by the checking provider, and — where the check completes successfully — a "Police check verified" badge displayed on your BamChi provider profile for 12 months from verification. The badge shows only the verified status and its date. The check itself is conducted entirely by the checking provider: they verify your identity and capture your informed consent on their secure page.
2. Consent
By purchasing, you consent to BamChi initiating a check with the checking provider on your behalf and to the checking provider processing your personal information for that purpose. The formal informed-consent form for the check is completed by you within the checking provider's flow. You warrant that all information you provide is true and accurate; false or inaccurate details void the check without refund and may result in the closure of your provider account.
3. Your privacy — who sees what
BamChi never shares the contents of your check with anyone. Pet owners and other users only ever see the verified badge and its date. Certificates are stored in encrypted, access-restricted storage that no BamChi staff can access other than the company director, and are never transmitted to any third party. Where a check requires manual review, only the director reviews it, and the only outcome ever shown in the app is whether the badge was added.
4. Timing
Most results are returned the same day. Around 1 in 20 checks is referred to one or more police agencies for review and can take from 2 to 15+ business days — this is a normal part of the national checking process, is outside BamChi's and the checking provider's control, and is not grounds for a refund. You must complete the checking provider's identity verification within 3 months of purchase; after that the check lapses without refund.
5. Refunds
Once you have completed identity verification and the check has been submitted, no refund is available. Before identity verification is submitted, you may cancel for a refund less a $10 processing fee. No refund is available where the check lapses because identity verification was not completed within 3 months, or where inaccurate information was supplied.
6. Outcomes and review
A check reporting no disclosable court outcomes results in the verified badge being added automatically. Any other result is reviewed by BamChi's director before a decision about the badge is made; BamChi may decline to add the badge at its discretion. Declining the badge is not an accusation and is never displayed publicly. If you believe your check result is inaccurate, contact BamChi at [email protected] and we will raise a dispute with the checking provider — BamChi cannot alter check results.
7. Badge validity and renewal
The badge reflects a point-in-time check and is displayed for 12 months from verification, after which it is removed unless renewed. BamChi may remove the badge earlier where required by law, by the national policing scheme or the checking provider's policy, or where the account is suspended.
8. Data handling and retention
BamChi handles all check-related information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Certificates are retained only as long as required for the badge's validity and our legal obligations, then deleted.
9. Changes
BamChi may update these terms from time to time, with at least 14 days notice of material changes via email or through the platform.
