About Stella

I’ve always been an animal lover, and caring for animals has been a huge part of my life. I have three years of hands-on experience working at a dog kennel, where I cared for and handled dogs of all sizes, breeds and temperaments. I’m comfortable with energetic, nervous and more challenging dogs, and I’ve also had experience with basic training, administering medication and general day-to-day care. I currently also work at a pet shop, which has given me even more knowledge about caring for different types of animals and understanding their individual needs. I’m patient, attentive and genuinely enjoy getting to know each animal’s personality. Most importantly, I treat every pet as if they were my own and want them to feel safe, comfortable and happy while they’re in my care.

Questions Stella has answered

What do you need to know about a pet before accepting a booking?

Before accepting a booking, I like to know as much as possible about the pet so I can make sure I can provide the best and safest care for them. I’d want to know their temperament and personality, what they like and dislike, any triggers or behaviours I should be aware of, and how they are around other animals and people. I’d also like to know about their usual routine, whether they’re comfortable travelling in a car, any allergies or medical conditions, whether they need medication, and any other specific needs or things their owner feels are important for me to know. Knowing these things beforehand helps me make sure they feel comfortable, safe and happy while they’re in my care.

How much time will you actually spend with my pet each visit?

The amount of time I spend with your pet will depend on the service you choose and their individual needs. As a standard visit, I’m happy to do around a 30–40 minute walk, followed by some time to let them wind down, have some water and settle comfortably back at home. I’m also happy to accommodate longer walks or visits where needed, and I can discuss a suitable time and price with you depending on what works best for you and your pet.

What happens if my pet gets sick or hurt while with you?

If your pet becomes unwell or injured while they’re in my care, my first step would be to contact you straight away and let you know what’s happening. Having worked at a dog kennel for three years, I’ve had experience seeing and dealing with a range of injuries and illnesses, so I’m comfortable assessing a situation and recognising when something needs urgent attention. I would always follow your instructions where possible, but if I couldn’t reach you and your pet was seriously unwell or injured, I would take them to a vet immediately. I’d keep you updated throughout and make sure their safety and wellbeing always come first.

Where will you take my pet?

I’d always ask the owner if their pet has a favourite walking spot. If not, I’ll choose a safe and suitable local area based on their needs, such as a park or quiet walking track, where they can exercise, sniff, explore and enjoy some enrichment.

How many pets are in your care at once?

I’m happy to care for multiple pets at once, depending on the individual booking and their needs. I’m very organised with my schedule and will make sure my bookings don’t overlap, so I can give each pet the time, attention and care they deserve.

How and when will you update me during the booking?

I’ll discuss your preferred communication with you before the booking, including how often you’d like updates and what to do in case of an emergency. I’m also happy to send photos or videos during the booking so you can see how your pet is doing. I’m very easy-going and happy to accommodate your preferences and your pet’s needs.
